A New Normal

Animated Short + AR Experience - Writer, Director, AR Artist, Co-Producer

Augmented reality transforms family conversations across three continents into a meditation on home and belonging.

A New Normal explores how digital connections become our anchors across distances, using AR to bridge the physical gaps between families. We collaborated with artists across Copenhagen, Madrid, Mumbai, and Los Angeles during the pandemic lockdown to create this piece for Adobe's Festival of the Impossible 2020. Through mixed reality, we transform everyday video calls into intimate encounters, overlaying AR versions of family members to recreate the feeling of home - reflecting both the immigrant experience and our collective new reality during the pandemic

Design

Making an AR film disrupted our usual animation production pipeline. With minimal pre-production, we jumped straight into creating final assets that were animated in Adobe Aero and shot using Real-time compositing.

Collaboration

With just one month from concept to completion, parallel workflows and seamless collaboration became crucial to our success. The tight timeline demanded rethinking traditional linear production, as our team coordinated interviews and production simultaneously across multiple time zones. This ambitious vision was realized through the dedication of our remote team, who proved that distance was no barrier to creating intimate storytelling.
